Kashu Man

Daren Williams aka Kashu formerly Cashew Man has steadily carved out a place for himself performing all over from major concerts in his hometown of Toll Gate, Clarendon in Jamaica, sound system parties and the recording studio. He has performed for thousands including at the popular Island Explosion and Emancipation Jam stage shows and has consistently generated rave response from every audience in every venue. However a highlight of Kashu’s sojourn was unveiled on May 5, 2001 when he was named National winner of the island wide televised Reggae Trails talent search.

From thereon it has been no stopping the young entertainer, in October 2003 Kashu formed an alliance with Cabel “Jeffery” Stephenson the well respected tour organizer and personal manager for the internationally renowned group The Gladiators. Under the influence of Stephenson’s Free People Entertainment, Kashu continues to make his presence felt among his peers, music industry players and music fans.

His recordings and video have enjoyed rotation across the airwaves and he has become known for tracks including Double Love, Mama’s Joy, Unfair System and Nutten nah Gwaan among others. He recorded for major reggae labels including 5TH Element Records and his debut album is set to storm the international music scene. “I want to take it to the ultimate… Billboard charts, Grammy Awards and major Record deal, the whole works” he resolves, pointing out that “I don’t have to take the vulgar route to get there.”

Blazing a trail across the landscape of Neo-Roots Reggae the singjay Kashu is among the core group of new blood to emerge on a determined mission to heal the world with music. He is set apart by his unique delivery and his distinct raspy vocals as well as a natural inherent flair for lyrics construction. Aside from the crusade to convey conscious message Kashu recognizes the importance of the entertainment value of his art, this is why the reggae exponent’s music is based around a central formula, a musical philosophy guided by the tenets: God, Girls and Ghetto Concerns - for short G3. (G To The Third Power)

Furthermore, as Kashu continues to indelibly impress all who have come in contact with his music he remains firm that he needs no vulgarity for popularity. “There is an argument going around that slackness is what the people want and we have to give the people what they want but the dancehall has shown that the people need consciousness. Conscious music will always be on top, consciousness lives forever.” Kashu stated!!!

To the uninitiated Kashu’s guiding philosophy might seem to be trifling gibberish but the gaunt dreadlocked entertainer’s principle allows for versatility across different subject areas. His Knowledge and diversity spans his musical topics from human oppression, affairs of the heart to dance floor party themes.

Nonetheless, although music has been coursing through his veins ever since he would sing at Church and Scholl concerts as a teenager Kashu’s talents extend to Fashion Designing, Football and Construction Engineering. He was a DaCosta Cup star forward on his High School team at Vere Technical where he also obtained a Certificate in Construction Engineering but Music he knows is his true calling and soon the moniker Kashu will be the name on the lips of music fans everywhere.
